Week in review

Sunday: Valentine's Day! As always, we started with candy and little gifts for everyone. Otherwise, we had a pretty quiet day--church online, everyone sat around reading books quietly (the kids bought that it's what "book club" means), and we made homemade fettuccini alfredo and cheesecake.

Monday: Six dentist appointments--first in nearly two years because of Covid-closures! We had split up the appointments over two days, but with a snowstorm coming, they got us all in on Monday. But everyone had to wait in the car when it wasn't their turn, so it took some logistical gymnastics. We hit the library first to pick up piles of books and DVDs for the long wait in the car.

Tuesday: We got six inches of snow plus strong winds overnight, so there was a lot of shoveling. Our teacher retreat was postponed so we got a bonus day together. Nellie even had a snow day from remote learning! Later in the afternoon, Kevin went to move snow at Woldumar and the younger kids and I tagged along. We had a ton of fun running through knee-deep snow (it was probably belly-button deep for Mary) and playing on the natural playground that was completely buried.

Wednesday: My one day of school! It was a long day of trying to get everyone ready for two days without me and getting myself ready for two days away.

Thursday and Friday I was helping with professional development in West Michigan schools, which was another amazing learning opportunity. Everyone at home did great - Mary told me that she'd been very good and not mad or scared at all, then informed Kevin that sometimes moms bring home surprises for kids who are very good and don't get mad or scared at all, so I had to run to the Walmart across the parking lot from my hotel...

Saturday and Sunday: I got my second Covid-19 vaccine Saturday morning--woohoo! I found out when I got my confirmation earlier in the week that I'd accidentally signed up to get the vaccine at the Barry County office. Oops! But Kevin and Mary drove with me and it was a lovely drive through snow-covered fields. Unfortunately, it took me down for a couple of days. I guess I appreciated the rare days in bed and I definitely appreciate the chance to get the vaccine. No complaints here.
