Mary Cate, 5 years old

Mary Cate had a rainbow-themed birthday, which is perfect because: 1) She loves rainbows, 2) she's a rainbow baby, and 3) she sure brings a lot of color into all our lives! In the last year, Mary has learned how to read, whistle, snap her fingers, "pump" on the swings, and how to be happy at school. She just told me she also learned about sharks and whales, numbers, and letters. She gets a little more brave and independent every day, but snuggling is still her favorite. Mary Cate is five and every bit her sweet and salty self!

How do you feel about being five?  

Good and excited for school.

What makes you most excited about being five?

Now I can slide down the slide on my belly and I couldn't do that last year because I was scared to!

What other kinds of new things can five-year-olds do?

So. Now I get to do homework but I didn't get to do that last year. I have Fun Fridays at school. I can do Pilgrim Play [soccer clinic].

Who are your best friends?

Let's see...Luke because now we have a loving game. It's a cat game. Ian. Otto our cousin, Otto from school, Elliott. I have a new friend Emily at school this year.

Who are your favorite people to play with?
All the people I just said. Eddie and DJ! Oh yes, Laffy [the dog]!

What kinds of things are you good at?

Scootering with two wheels. Building with Legos. I'm super good at that. I'm good at playing Animal Crossing. I'm super used to it because I play it every day.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be just like a plain old mom.

Why do you want to be a mom?

Doing laundry and having a helper. Having babies because I LOVE babies. [DJ: How many babies do you want to have?] Five. [What do you want to name them?] I want to name one Elizabeth and one James. That's all.

Goodbye Earl, Livin' on a Prayer, the Jake theme song, a song I learned at school called Lemon Squeeze!

What's your favorite food?
You know it's mac and cheese!

Favorite drink?

Juice and chocolate milk. My favorite kind of juice is grape juice. [She's insisting on yellow words for this one]

The Jake movie.

Dog Man: Mothering Heights

Favorite color?   
I have a bunch of favorite colors! Yellow, blue, purple, red, orange, and green.

Favorite place to be?

McDonald's. [We just discovered that the playplace is open at the GL McDonald's again. There was no one there so I let her play one day when it was just the two of us. She barely remembered it! It had been over a year and a half...]

What are your favorite things to do?   
Snuggle you. Be at school. Snuggle my blue blankie. Celebrate my birthday.

What is your favorite present that you got for your birthday?
My Dog Man stuffie.

Is there anything else you want us to know about you?   
My favorite thing is God. Well, that's not a thing, it's a person, so... My actual favorite thing is foot massages.
