I took a complimentary 10 x 10 number square from a teaching conference because I thought Kevin might be able to use it with his students. It has been in the book basket ever since, though Nellie takes it out to look at the numbers on it every once in awhile. Tonight she was supposed to be picking a bedtime story for Kevin to read. She picked one book and the number square, saying "first let's do some counting, then we'll read this story."
I listened while Kevin very patiently helped Nellie count all the way up to 80. Like mother, like daughter?
