One of Nellie's favorite books for the past year has been Eric Carle's 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo! It doesn't actually have words, just pictures of animals riding in a train. There's a different animal on each page with a different number of animals, plus a little mouse hiding somewhere. So we count the animals and find the mouse. And, of course, we read it over and over again.
Somehow, Nellie has developed lots of other little rituals while reading it. Namely, she smells each of the animals and kisses the mouse. I have no idea where she came up with it, but she does it every time. Strange.
Ha! Maybe she's just trying to use all of her senses to read.
